Carolyn M. Bukowski

June 4, 1934 — October 4, 2024

West Mifflin

Carolyn M. (Hess) Bukowski 90, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully in her home on October 4, 2024, with her daughter by her side. She was born in Pittsburgh, one of three daughters of the late Walter and Mary (Sestak) Hess. Loving wife of the late William J. Bukowski. Beloved mother of Janice M. Tarson and James W. Bukowski, cherished Nana to Nicholas Tarson and Jenna Tarson. Preceded in death by her sisters Marian White and Ruth Elaschat.

After graduating from South High School, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Bill, Carolyn successfully completed the Secretarial Studies Division program of the Robert Morris School of Business in Pittsburgh.

She married Bill in 1955 while he was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. During these early years of marriage, Carolyn worked as a civilian secretary for the U.S.A.F.. Upon Bill’s honorable discharge, they returned to the area where Carolyn grew up and purchased their lifelong home in West Mifflin. They spent the next 66 years as husband and wife until Bill’s passing in October 2021.

Carolyn was a very social lady who enjoyed working outside the home. She showed her love and dedication to her family and children by putting her career on hold so that she could be home to raise her children. During these years, Carolyn kept herself busy and social by volunteering at Jefferson Hospital, as a member of Christian Mothers at Holy Angels, singing in the choir at Holy Angels, attending water aerobics, exploring her crafty and creative side with sewing, knitting, ceramics and macrame classes and eventually as a member of the Holy Angels crochet group, as well as being an avid bowler for all of her adult life. Carolyn also enjoyed camping and every family vacation was spent visiting several of our beautiful states with the big blue station wagon and the little brown and white camper. She even had the opportunity to live out her dream of visiting Hawaii on a family vacation. Carolyn eventually returned to work as an Administrative Assistant where she received many, many commendations over the years for her superior performance. Carolyn retired shortly before her first grandchild was born and spent the next 8+ years babysitting her beloved grandchildren. Carolyn and Bill remained active, involved, and interested in all of Nick and Jenna’s school, extracurricular, and recreational activities. They were well-recognized and well-loved fixtures in the bleachers or the seats at all of Nick and Jenna’s events
