We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doris Jean Hyde, age 81. Although overcome by grief, we are never the less overjoyed to know that her passing was quick and involved very little pain. She was the loving mother of Jeffrey and his wife Sammy, daughter Rebecca Hyde and her husband Joseph Radinovic; daughter Gretchen McDonald and her husband William; and her youngest child Robb and his wife Michelle. She leaves behind seven beautiful grandchildren, upon whom she showered love and attention. Doris was married to the late Richard Lee Hyde for over forty-four years. They met after World War II, when Richard was taking advantage of the GI Bill to obtain his degree in Chemistry and Doris was studying Education at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Born in Clendenin, West Virginia, Doris moved to Pittsburgh with her beloved Richard in 1952 to establish her family and career. A life-long educator, Doris began her teaching career at Neville Island Elementary School in 1952. She was awarded her Master's Degree in Administration and became the Principal of Barrett Elementary School in Homestead, PA for over two decades. During this time Doris devoted herself to the care and educational nourishment of the children of Homestead. Such was her dedication and devotion that, to this day, there still exists a "Doris Hyde Merit Day" at Barrett. Homestead was her home and she devoted herself to the betterment of the Borough. Her community involvement and mentoring of so many children eventually earned her honorary membership in the NAACP. After retiring, Doris occupied her time with charitable works. She was instrumental in the operation and oversight of the Homestead Methodist Union of Social Agencies' (MUSA), child day-care center children and sat on the Board of Directors for the agency until the day of her death. By far, Doris' greatest achievement was assisting in the recovery of Paul Kuszaj, a much beloved teacher at Barrett Elementary, stricken by an aneurysm in the prime of his life. For nearly nine years Doris devoted her skills and time to helping Paul regain his abilities. She loved him like a son and thought of him as part of the family. We all love Paul, his wife, Janet and their beautiful boys for the joy that they brought into our mother's life. Friends and family will be received Tuesday, August 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME, INC. - 3511 Main St. Munhall. (A selected Golden Rule Firm). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at 1 P.M. at the Homestead Park United Methodist Church, 4231 Shady Avenue, Munhall, PA 15120, officiated by Pastor Michael Rucker. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a donation to MUSA at P.O. Box 433, Homestead, PA 15120.
