Jerome William Cortazzo

December 29, 1948 — November 25, 2024

Jerome William Cortazzo, born on December 29, 1948, age 75, passed on November 25, 2024 after a brief illness surrounded by his daughters and family. Jerome was born to the late William and Marie Cortazzo.

Jerome is survived by daughters Camille (Ryan) Hixon of Munhall and Callie Cortazzo (Tyler Stenger) of Pittsburgh, his siblings Fred (Linda) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Gregory (Mary) of North Huntingdon, Theresa Berkoben (Albert) of West Homestead, and Connie Ferencz of West Mifflin, and many nieces and nephews. 

Jerome was widely known as “Flash"-- also known as Jerry or “Crow”. Jerome enjoyed many things in life, but mostly spending time with his daughters, friends, family and his cat Buddy. He spent countless hours gardening, fishing, and loved to travel. Jerome loved playing cards with a group of friends who became his poker family. He loved studying the art of gambling, the strategy of card games and was always willing to teach someone the right way to play. In his retirement he made annual trips to Jamaica where he would stay throughout the winter months with local friends he had made over the years. 

Over the past decade, Jerome took on the role of Santa Claus. He quickly became known as “Santa” amongst many friends and small children. He devoted his time between Thanksgiving and Chrtismas working at various malls, visiting churches, hospitals, schools, daycares, and the homes of family and friends to spread Christmas cheer and bring Santa to life for countless children In the non-holiday season, he would frequently dress in red and give kids a wave that would make their faces light up. 

Jerome lived life to the fullest, following his own path and making countless friends and memories along the way. He worked hard, played hard and stressed very little. He understood the value of family, friendship and being part of the community. There will be countless stories told by family and friends to keep his spirit alive for years to come. 

Jerome's family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider donating to the causes that he held dear: The Make A Wish Foundation or Catcalls Rescue (www.catcallsrescue.org).

Family and friends received on Sunday, December 1, from 6-8 PM and Monday, December 2, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall 15120, 412-461-6394. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Tuesday, December 3, at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish: St. Therese R.C. Church Worship Site, 1 St. Therese Ct., Munhall,  with Fr. Jim Bachner officiating. Please leave your memories and condolences at www.georgeigreenfuneralhome.com.
