John Regis (Rege) Kostrub

Age 71, of Munhall, passed away on March 14, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Hlasnick) Kostrub, and son, Daniel Douglas (Ashley) Kostrub grandsons Brady and Collin Kostrub whom he cherished dearly.

Also survived by Emma (Andrew) Kraynak, children Rustin, Lydia and (late) Fiona; and Stephen Madden.

Brother of Janice (Paul) Malloy, Joyce (Terry) Brown, and John David (Lisa) Kostrub. Uncle of Diana (Nick) Barney and Katelyn Kostrub. Preceded in death by his parents John and Therese Kostrub

Brother-in-law of Greg (Patti) Hlasnick; Carrie (Eddie) Vinay; and Brian (Joelle) Hlasnick; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Long-time friend of Howard, Johnny, Jerry, and Jim.

Rege was Assistant Facilities Director for Baldwin-Whitehall School District.

Rege will be missed by his puppy-boy, Cooper. Pappy Rege loved spending time with his adored grandsons, Brady and Collin. “Reegee” loved sleepovers with Rustin and Lydia. The kids loved filling the bird feeders, going over the field to watch Cooper catch the ball, and having a bowl of orange sherbet with him.

Rege enjoyed taking “jaunts” in his nice, clean, truck! He loved going to the mountains, Gettysburg, Amish Country, Ligonier, Ocean City, N.J., and the Florida Keys.

Weekends consisted of a big breakfast, sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee and reading a good book. Rege, Bev and Cooper spent summer evenings sitting around the fire having a good glass of bourbon, or a couple nice cold beers, or a bottle of wine.

He also loved tradition, including preparing the holiday meals he learned from his mom.

Rege will always be remembered for “being there” for friends and family when needed, he was a good man.

The family wishes to thank the AHN Jefferson nurses on 4North for their compassionate care, especially Hailey, Francesca, Dilli, and Caitlyn; along with nurses aides Baylee and Justin. A special thanks to the ICU nurses Avery, Justin, and Allison.
