Joseph J. Sawl, Jr.

Joseph J. Sawl, Jr. 92, of West Homestead, passed away peacefully Friday, February 7, 2025.  He was born in Pittsburgh the son of the late Joseph J. Sr., and Margaret (Mahr) Sawl.  A graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School, Class of 1950, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a parishioner and usher at St. Therese Church in Munhall.  Joe was a lifetime member of the West Homestead Volunteer Fire Company serving as Assistant Chief, Treasurer and Chaplain.     

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Vilma (Sabo) Sawl, Loving father of James (Mary) and Gregg (Judy), proud grandfather of Dan (Jenna) and Anne, adoring great-grandfather of Henrik and Elizabeth; brother of Janice (late James) Gavel, and the late Frank (late Anna Marie).  Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Joe worked as an installer for Western Electric for 40 years.  He loved his family, Pittsburgh sports teams, listening to music, golfing, bowling, visiting casinos (especially in Las Vegas), cruises and traveling the world with his loving wife of 63 years.  

Family and friends received on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 2 - 8pm at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall, 15120 (412-461-6394).  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10am in St. Thomas the Apostle Parish St. Therese Worship Site.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe's name to the West Homestead Volunteer Fire Department, 445 West 8th Avenue, West Homestead, PA  15120.  Please share your memories and condolences at georgeigreenfuneralhome.com
