Lois Shope Mitsch, 90, of Munhall, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012.  She was the wife of the late Charles Mitsch; daughter of the late Henry Shope and Twila (Thompson) Shope; brother of the late Harry Shope.  Mrs. Mitsch is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Jeanette Shope of Munhall, by two nieces, Kathy Janocsko of Munhall, PA and Patricia Vargo of North Huntingdon, PA; by five nephews, Robert Shope of Wayne, PA; William Shope of Pompano Beach, Fl; John Shope of Raleigh, N.C.; James Shope of Butler, PA; and Thomas Shope of Peters Twp., PA; by sixteen great nieces and nephews; by her dear friend, Theresa Gamret, of Munhall, PA; and by other many other close friends in the Homestead-Munhall area.  Ms. Mitsch was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology and later received a masters degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh.  After a brief career at Westinghouse, Ms. Mitsch became a teacher and taught business courses in the East Allegheny School District for many years.  Following her retirement from East Allegheny, Ms. Mitsch served as a substitute teacher at Bishop Boyle High School.  Ms. Mitsch was a devoted supporter of the Carnegie Library of Homestead and was recently honored as one of the charter members of the Friends of the Library organization.  Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall.  A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 am with the Rev. Charles Jack.  Interment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.  Contributions in Mrs. Mitsch’s memory can be made to the Carnegie Library of Homestead, 510 East Tenth Avenue, Munhall, PA. 15120.
