William Regis Shaw, 81, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, with his dearest loved ones near. Born in Hazelwood to Nora E. and Mark H. Shaw on September 7, 1943, he was the sixth of seven children—Mary Virginia Shaw (deceased), James F. Shaw (deceased), Mark H. Shaw (deceased), Robert J. (Katherine, deceased) Shaw, John R. (Karen) Shaw, and David M. (Teresa, deceased) Shaw. Bill was a wonderful and respected brother and uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from South High School in Pittsburgh, William dutifully served in the U.S. Army. After honorable discharge, he began a 38-year career with ASKO/SinterMet and met the love of his life Evelyn L. Nix. They eloped in Winchester, VA on July 6, 1968. After a decade-long honeymoon, they joyously welcomed their only child Erin Elizabeth in 1978.

William lived for his family and did all he could to make Evie and Erin’s lives as easy and enriched as possible. Spending cherished time with them was his favorite hobby. He took seriously his role as father to teach Erin patience, persistence, and all he knew about everything, to best prepare her for the world. He provided all the love and support any daughter could ever hope to receive.

Each summer, Bill, Evie, Erin, and his dear sister Mary Virginia traveled to Ocean Isle beach in North Carolina to create lifelong memories of oceanside fun, special dinners, and shopping trips that filled every available space in the car for the long treks home.

In 2009, Erin married John Stinner Jr., and they moved to his home state Nebraska. The following year, Bill and Evie moved to Nebraska. His love and devotion to family knew no bounds. In 2011, his first grandson John Paul “Jack” Stinner III was born and retired Bill became full-time grandfather and childcare giver. Jack’s first word was the name he bestowed upon his grandfather, who since, became known as “Bubba.” For a man who lived every day with immense class, dignity, and decorum, the irony was hysterical. But Bill wore the name with pride and was the best Bubba ever to Jack and his brother Henry William, who was named after him in 2013. In 2014, Bill, Evie, Erin, John, Jack, and Henry moved back to Pittsburgh and Bubba was ever-present in his grandsons’ lives, loving them, teaching them, spoiling them, and always thinking of them first.

Bill was lovingly married to Evie for 56 wonderful years. His calming and steady presence as her devoted partner made life’s challenges easier to bear. He was the smartest and kindest man she knew, always a gentleman and generous beyond measure. Bill was often the best dressed man in the room, but that also meant it took longer to get ready and therefore, usually arrived late. Evie estimates that of their 56 years together, five were spent waiting on Bill. But she wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Bill’s kindness brought warmth to all those he engaged with, though that circle was usually small by choice—his family and those they cared about. If he was in pain or suffering, you didn’t know. He never complained (except about PennDOT).

He leaves behind a family that will miss him every minute of every day but takes solace that he was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, brothers, and sister.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall, 15120, 412-461-6394.
